All of these words have been used to describe the music and performance of singer-songwriter and award-winning artist Emmett Williams. His energetic live shows have entertained people throughout the United States and Europe. As Peter Cooper of the Nashville Tennessean describes, “Emmett Williams is a gentle, unassuming guy, but he’s got some strange quirks: he professes equal appreciation for punk rock and country music, he won’t perform sitting down, and he is completely incapable of performing at less than impassioned levels of emotion.” On January 3, Emmett begins a 42 city/7 country tour of the US, Europe and South America behind the release of SHINE, a collection of fan favorites from his previous four CDs. Also on this tour Williams will be playing song from his forthcoming release “Wander, Wonder”. Included in SHINE is a re-recording of the song “Black Boys In America”, an adaptation of the Sinead O’Connor song “Black Boys On Mopeds”. Emmett was inspired by the recent Trayvon Martin killing and recent news stories about American poverty to update the song. Accompanying the song is a controversial video that attempts to connect the history of race relations in America to it’s poverty problem. Originally from St. Louis, Emmett cut his musical teeth playing in bands during stops in Philadelphia, New York, Istanbul and London. While his influences run the musical spectrum of punk, funk, rock, and country, he found his calling as a folksinger. But he has yet to be pigeonholed into any musical category.
