Description: When asked what he loves most about performing his music to people, Alohi explains, "I love to share a message of love, light, compassion and awareness with those who experience my shows. I like to take them on a journey through deeper parts of themselves that may have been forgotten or ignored." Indeed, the name Alohi means bright and shining in Hawaiian, which illuminates the intention of Alohi's music; to spread more of what he desires to see in this world, 'More laughter, more inspiration, a greater appreciation for this life that we are all so blessed to be living.' His music is touching, uplifting and contemplative and his poetic and eloquent words sing directly to your heart and soul. With sounds ranging from the softest of lullabies to reggae and hip hop influenced rhythms, Alohi has song for any mood, "So long," he says ' That the listeners intention is to rise up, to live and love wholeheartedly." Born Lyle Alohi van Loon on the Big Island of Hawaii, Alohi adopted his middle name after a deeply profound spiritual experience that awoke him and connected him to his undeniable calling to write songs of beauty, contemplation and love, and to deliver them to the world. While Alohi has now moved to the mainland from his island home to share these songs, he naturally works to spread the Aloha spirit everywhere he travels, "The name Alohi helps to constantly remind me of my roots on the big island, and what exactly it is that I am doing here on this earth." Alohi was recognized as one of the 18 Most Talented People under 21 by a magazine in New Mexico and has performed at shows, events and festivals in California and Hawaii including the recent Alchemize festival, a gathering of visionary artists from around the world. When asked who his greatest influences are, Alohi refers passionately to Bob Marley, ' I grew up listening to him. I love his message. In many ways it's the same as mine. Love! We've got to love ourselves! We've got to love each other! We've got to love and appreciate this world that we live in and everything that comes along with this life! It is through this love that we will find the most joy, individually and collectively.' He also offers gratitude to The Beatles, Xavier Rudd, Beats Antique, Toots and the Maytals, Brett Dennen, Medicine for the People, Mama Crow and The Luminaries. When questioned on outside influences to his music, Alohi explains, 'Within and outside of music I am passionate in my belief in the power of love. This passion is infused into everything else that I do. I am passionate about art, as well as doing all I can to help the environment and fellow human beings.' 'I feel inspired to live, and that in itself manifests as musical or artistic inspiration at any given moment. I am inspired by moments of peace, beauty or excitement, moments of heartache and realization, a sunny day, a crowded street, a swim in the ocean, by the shear beauty and perfection of nature, as well as the immense potential that I see in the human race.' Alohi has studied music, art, theater and dance at Cabrillo College in California and continues to write music on a daily basis. He feels that his music is a collaboration of sorts between himself and the infinite source of all creation. Musically, Alohi feels that he has gained much since leaving the big island and feels that his recent work has been greatly inspired by the spirit of the redwood forest, 'It has truly been a humbling experience to be in the presence of these ancient beings. I am deeply honored that they have shared their silent wisdom with me through song and through the spoken word that I write.' He continues to feel a strong connection to the big Island and the Aloha spirit, and each return home awakens within him that power that, 'fiery, young, raw force that has taught me so much about myself, and played such a vital role in my own rebirth and transformation, as I have seen it do for so many others.' Alohi continues to be inspired by the joyous consciousness of the youthful vibrant life that characterizes the island as well as the energy of the ocean, 'The powerful sea that gently cleanses my soul of all that is no longer of service to myself or the universe at large.' Alohi expresses that he has dedicated his life to his music and art wholeheartedly and also remains committed on an emotional and spiritual level to nurture the bonds with his family and community, "I believe that a unified and loving family unit is a crucial and wonderful foundation for one to blossom from.' 'As the core message of my music is love unity and integrity, I feel that it only makes sense to forge such a level of relation with all of my family members, which has been my spiritual work for the past few years.' The light of Alohi, his shining spirit and open heart is reflected in his desire to imbue people with this deep sense of joy, love and purpose. 'I want to spread an attitude of gratitude and the joy for life that I feel. To be an example of the change that I would like to see. Spreading the music, the light, the word.'
